After Yonex Sunrise Badminton Asia Championships 2007 which was held in Indoor Stadium (Stadium Bandaraya Johor Bahru) from 10 to 15 April, the next tournament in line will be the Singapore Open and then Indonesia Open shortly after that. These two tournaments will be held from 1 to 6 May, and 8 to 13 May respectively.

These tournaments will certainly be the warming ups for the upcoming World Championship 2007 which will be held in Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, from August 13 to August 19, 2007. Our heroes finally lost

Asian Badminton Championships final, how could a badminton fanatic like me miss watching it live? Live on TV, not on Johor, to be exact. The games started on Sunday, 2pm sharp.Out of the 5 final events: Mix doubles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles, I was more interested in Men’s singles where Reigning Olympic and Asian Games champion Taufik Hidayat met Chen Hong, and Men’s doubles where our hotshots Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong met Lee Wan Wah and Chong Tan Fook.

Taufik Hidayat walked away with the Asian Badminton Championships title for the third time with an easy 21-18, 21-19 win over an injured Chen Hong of China in the men’s singles final yesterday.

Taufik Hidayat overcomes Lee Chong Wei

Sad. Lee Chong Wei lost to Taufik Hidayat again! The defending champion from Malaysia was beaten by Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat in the men’s singles quarter-finals at the Yonex Sunrise Badminton Asia Championships yesterday. We know it was not an easy game for Lee Chong Wei to fight the reigning Olympic and Asian Games champion… but I think Chong Wei just lost too tamely!

Taufik ran out an easy 21-17, 21-17 win in 40 minutes at the Johor Bahru City Council Indoor Stadium. For Lee Chong Wei, it was is seventh defeat against his good friend Taufik Hadiyat. Taufik will meet Anup Sridhar of India in the semifinals which I feel it may be a easy game for him too.

Yeoh Kay Bin

In the other hand, Malaysia’s Yeoh Kay Bin stole the limelight from defending champion and team-mate Lee Chong Wei when he overcame the Hong Kong’s Chan Yan Kit with 13-21, 21-19, 21-14 in 47 minutes to reach the men’s singles semi-finals.

Yonex-Sunrise Asian Badminton Championships 2007

Yohooo… more badminton actions to watch! The time is the Yonex-Sunrise Asian Badminton Championships 2007 which carries a total prize money of US$125,000. This amount may sound a lot to you and me, but to tennis players, it’s like peanuts! Hahaha… Anyway, this even had kicked off since 10 April 2007.

The six-day championship is being held at the fully air-conditioned 3000-seat City Indoor Stadium (Stadium Bandaraya Johor Bahru). Johor Bahru?? Ahhhh, too bad, not in my town, so can’t watch my favorite players live this time.

Lee Chong Wei

Malaysia’s top seed and defending champion Lee Chong Wei, who is still down with a running nose, cleared the 3rd round by beating South Korean player Hwang Jung Woon with 23-21, 21-9 on the first round, and advanced with a 21-10,21-8 victory over Chinese’s veteran player Chen Long. In the third round, he beat Hong Kong’s Ng Wei with straight games 21-10 and 21-15. Lee Chong Wei will meet his good friend Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia in the Quater Final.

Who do you think stands a better chance of winning? :)

Lee Chong Wei has dropped to World Number 6

Lee Chong Wei

Malaysia’s national number one badminton singles player Lee Chong Wei has fallen out of the top five in the world rankings for the first time in two years. He dropped two rungs to sixth in the latest men’s singles rankings released on Thursday. It’s really dissapointing. But in the other hand, men’s doubles Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong has risen to World number 9.

Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong received rewards

Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong are so hot now that they are like super stars in Malaysia. Have you watched their appearance in Astro AEC last Sunday at 9.30pm? If you were their fan, I bet you must have enjoyed the interview, and might even have recorded it.

Personally, I think they are very cute, expecially true for Tan Boon Heong. Perhaps they are not very good in talking and camera shy… you can see that they are so much different on court and off court. Tough and strong on the badminton court; but shy and soft-spoken off court.
