All-England badminton championships 2008

Bad news again from All-England badminton championships in Birmingham! Our defending champions Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong crashed out of the All-England badminton championships in the first round yesterday, losing to unseeded Japanese pair Shuichi Sakamoto-Shintaro Ikeda. Oh my god! Once again, they lost to the Japanese pair who had defeated them in the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur last year.

Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong were beaten 18-21, 19-21 after battling for 40 minutes.

Since last Super Series at the Malaysia Open in January, this is the second time they failed to retain their title. They lost in the Malaysia Open last 2 months.

Luckily, another veterans Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah brought us hope when they beat Canadians Mike Beres-William Milroy 21-16, 21-12 in 24 minutes. Now, they will take on the winners of the match between Malaysia’s Ong Soon Hock-Tan Bin Shen and Americans Howard Bach-Bob Malaythong for a place in the quarter-finals. Choong and Lee, cheer up, and hope you can strike until final.
