Get ready for BWF World Championships 2007

BWF World Championships 2007 is around the corner! Yes, it will be held in Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil from 13 to 19 August. Have you prepare and make sure you are free on 18 and 19 August for the Semi finals and finals of the championships?

Doubles coach Rexy Mainaky’s dream is to see all four Malaysian pairs in the semi-finals of the World Championships. But for me, I hope to see our men’s double pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong to enter the finals on 19 August, so I can watch them play in the very near distance in the stadium. Haha.

According to Rexy, for it to happen will depend much on the performances of 15th seeds Ong Soon Hock-Tan Bin Shen. Soon Hock-Bin Shen is the pair of 4 doubles to have the toughest path to make it to the semi-finals. The three other pairs in the fray are Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif.

The duo, who lost in the last 16 in their debut in the world championships in Madrid last year, are expected to meet Indonesians Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan in the second round. Rexy is more optimistic of an all Malaysian semi-final between second seeds Kien Keat-Boon Heong and seventh seeds Fairuzizuan-Zakry.

For Rexy, the Putra Stadium brings back good memories. He was in the Indonesia team who won the Thomas Cup at the venue in 2000, teaming up with Tony Gunawan to clinch victory in the final against Denmark. It was his last appearance in the Thomas Cup Finals.
