Chong Wei, Kien Keat and Boon Heong Entered Finals

For who are fans of our national single player Lee Chong Wei and double players Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, please make sure you turn on your big TV screen and tone to Astro SuperSport channel at 2PM sharp today (22 July 2007) to watch the finals of the Philippine Open Badminton 2007 in Manila.

Chong Wei gave a solid performance to beat China’s Gong Weijie 23-21, 21-11 in the quarter-finals on last friday to set up a match against Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro in semi-finals. But Sony Dwi Kuncoro has just walkover the game this afternoon, so, this means Chong Wei has entered to finals and facing Chen Hong this afternoon. National coach Misbun Sidek said that Chong Wei looked good to go all the way to win the title if he can maintain his form.

In the men’s doubles, Kien Keat-Boon Heong tore apart Korean youngsters Han Sang-hoon-Cho Gun-woo 21-4 21-12 in the semi-finals today. In the other semi-finals, China’s Guo Zhengdong and Xie Zhongbo beaten the Hong Kong’s Albertus Susanto Nyoto-Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama. So, Kien Keat and Boon Heong will meet the China pairs today afternoon in the finals. So, don’t miss the game…

After skipping two international tournaments – Thailand Open and the China Masters – Kien Keat-Boon Heong have dropped one rung to the third spot in the world rankings. And they need a win the Philippines Open title to get back into the second spot ahead of the world meet.

After a brief slump, Kien Keat-Boon Heong finally found the spark for a revival when they put up a fiery performance to beat China’s number two pair Xie Zhongbo-Guo Zhengdong 21-8, 26-24 in the men’s doubles final in the Philippines Open.
