Dragon Boat Festival and Rice Dumpling
Guess what, today is chinese Dragon Boat Festival or Duanwu Festival. Duanwu Festival is a traditional Chinese festival held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. Thus, it is also known as the Double Fifth. There are nothing special in this festival except we eat bamboo-wrapped steamed rice dumplings called “zongzi”.

There are a variety of rice dumpling in different countries. For example, Eastern Rice Dumpling is a restaurant which sells a variety of Eastern rice dumpling since more than 30 years ago. I am not promoting this restaurant, just attracted by its different styles of dumplings. Maybe I can go and taste if I go to Singapore some day.
Let’s start our food fiesta now, shall we?
Nyonya Rice Dumpling

This dumpling is wrapped using pandan leave with white glutinous rice and the filling of fine pork cubes fried with coriander powders. A typical Singapore Nyonya style rice dumpling.
Salted Rice Dumpling with egg yolk

We Chinese are really creative when they come to do their dumplings. This one has lots of fillings. The dumpling is wrapped using bamboo leaves with fried glutinous rice and the filling of egg yolk, chestnut, mushroom and pork cubes marinaded with five spices. You look at the list of fillings, your mouth start to water already.

This is actually a typical Chinese style rice dumpling. The dumpling is wrapped using bamboo leaves with fried glutinous rice and the filling of chestnut, mushroom and pork cubes marinaded with some spices.
Cantonese Style Rice Dumpling

This dumpling is wrapped using bamboo leaves with glutinous rice and the filling of green beans, egg yolk, and pork cubes marinaded with five spices. A taste of Cantonese food.
Kee Chang with bean paste

This dumpling is wrapped with yellow glutinous rice using fresh bamboo leaves, filling with red bean paste. These dumplings are also cooked in alkaline water, in a separated stainless steel container from all the other dumplings. Also a vegetarian delight with sweet taste in the filling. Also available in plain Kee Chang without bean paste.
Chilli-Shrimps Rice Dumpling
